Congratulations on completing your orthodontic journey! We hope you are thrilled with your new smile. At Ocean Orthodontics, we pride ourselves in providing all our patients with both fixed wire retainers and removable retainers.​

Wire retainers are glued to the backs of your upper and lower front teeth, and stay there forever. Why? Just like how our faces change with age, our teeth naturally want to crowd as we grow older. There are studies that shows that even after having wire retainers on for 10 years, if they are removed, teeth will move in a matter of months. Most people are not diligent enough with their removable retainers so having another layer of protection is a good idea..

We also provide ​Memotain® wires which are clinically proven to be thinner, stronger, and more long-lasting compared to traditional wire retainers. They are 3D custom printed to fit your teeth. This is the same type of retainer that Dr. R chose to help keep her own smile protected. There is an extra cost for these premium wires, but it pays for it self in the long-term

Types of retainers
We provide wire retainers and clear removable retainers. For the first 4-6 months, the removable retainers should be worn full time (only removing to eat/drink and brush your teeth). After that, you just wear it at night when you sleep.

Taking care of your retainers
We will give you a brochure with all the information you need to take care of your retainers. Make sure you follow all the instruction and you will have clean, functional retainers for a long time!

Retention checks
Dr. R will see you 4-6 months after you first get your retainers to ensure that things look good. After that, you call us if you need us.

Retainer loss/breakage
If you lose or break your retainer, please contact us ASAP so that we can make you a new one or repair your wire retainer. Teeth can move in a matter of days. It is your responsibility to inform us in a timely fashion so that we can accommodate you!
